McKenna Smet, Fitness Expert

Mckenna started working as a fitness trainer in 2010 and has since climbed her way to the top of a hyper-competitive health & wellness industry. She has an extensive academic background including a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Towson University, where she was a Division 1 student-athlete, and a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Alabama, where she was awarded the Outstanding Master’s Student in Health Sciences award. She is currently in a Ph.D. program for a doctoral degree in Health and Human Performance at Concordia University. Mckenna is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. Mckenna also has experience as a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness, as a Certified Weightlifting Coach through USA Weightlifting, and as a Certified Trigger Point Therapy specialist.

Mckenna has worked in both the corporate and private fitness industry. She was regularly featured on ABC 7 News Channel 8’s Good Morning Washington as a fitness expert and also appeared on News Channel 8’s Let’s Talk Live and NBC Sports Washington. She co-founded Elite Wellness Performance and Recovery in Virginia in 2018 to help people realize the importance of overall health in athletics and everyday living.

In 2021, Mckenna was named to the Team USA handball team and constantly continues to set a good example for others by maintaining her own level of fitness, regardless of if she’s competing in a sport or not. Mckenna likes to create health and fitness educational videos as well as customized workout programs for her clients whether they are local or abroad. Promoting a healthy, happy lifestyle and regularly speaking with clients about their physical health, as well as their mental health, is Mckenna’s passion. She truly believes that health is multidimensional and that taking a holistic approach to wellness is the best way to initiate change.

It’s not uncommon to see Mckenna at Elite Wellness assembling, installing, fixing, moving, or re-arranging equipment during her “free” time. She always wants to make sure everything is in good shape and in the best location. We secretly think she just comes up with new projects so she can use her tool belt!
